As part of the programmes during
International Year of Peace he designed and led an
inter-state Education campaign entitled "Shanti Yatra" on
behalf of G. Ramachandran Institute of Nonviolence in 1984.
The campaign was designed to be a one-month mass-contact and
mass-education campaign,
meeting an estimated number of ten million people.
traveling a distance of over 1600 kilometers
along the hinterlands of Kerala,
Pondicherry,
Karnataka and Tamilnadu.
winding its way through 400 villages over 90 towns and 16
district headquarters taking the message of Peace, Love and
Goodwill.
Objectives of the Campaign
to form units of Shanti Sena in villages, schools and
colleges to prepare children, student and non-student youth,
and adult men and women to promote peace and communal
harmony.
to promote the study of peace science and Gandhian Thought.
to take the message of peace, love and goodwill to all
sections of people.
to build a broad-based cadre of peace-workers.
to educate the people on the tragedy of war and the need for
building abiding peace.
to prepare the masses to actively involve in efforts to
strengthen the unity and integrity of
India.
